The Story Behind the Name

My love for design began as a child when I would spend hours decorating and rearranging a wooden dollhouse that my uncle Glenn gave me. I was captivated by how different pieces could come together to create something beautiful, and that passion has stayed with me ever since.

With artists, woodworkers, and designers on my dad's side, it's no surprise that creativity runs in my veins. In high school, my uncle Glenn—who studied architecture and renovated homes in Miami—encouraged me to turn my love for design into a career.

Watching him transform homes motivated me to take my first interior design course and eventually pursue it in college.

After earning my design degree and working for several years in the industry, Glenn gave me a special piece of our family's history: a furniture catalog from the 1930s that belonged to my great-grandmother, Marion Kennedy, who was among the first female interior designers in the United States.

In 2021, after 27 years of experience transforming residential and commercial spaces, I started my own business with my daughter Dakota. We wanted a name that honored our family's creative legacy.

While looking through the catalog together, she came up with the perfect idea: 1584 Design.

For me, the name is more than a nod to history—it's a reminder of where I come from and the creative roots that shaped me. Design has always been my passion, just like it was for my family before me, and I'm proud to carry that legacy forward.
